1. NLC Lamp – Treelike Hanging Light

German designer Constantin Wortmann has designed an attractive lighting unit called NLC Lamp for NEXT

. Here is some description by the manufacturer,  from the fact that the design invisibly incorporates the light source. The white cover hides the light fittings and is easily adjuste

“At a first glance, NLC perplexes with its positively striking and yet strangely puzzling appearance. Its special appeal lies in the seeming conflict between the chaotic and the organic. NLC draws its inspiration as much from the head of Medusa as from the finely trellised branches of a treetop. One of the reasons for the luminaire’s attractiveness certainly stemsd to create the desired amount of illumination. Dimmable LEDs offer an additional option of controlling the level of brightness. Due to the E14 fittings, NLC can be used either with LEDs or standard energy-saving lamps.”

2. Nordic Lamp

Italian designer Federica Bubani has created the Nordic Lamp. It is a simple table lamp made of white clay and wood. Inspired by the nordic design, the table lamp has a very simple structure that is composed of two ceramic elements, diffused light, and base and two wooden arms mounted by metal bolts. The on-off function of the light is controlled by a switch located in the base.

3. Oak

Australian designer Ross Gardam has created the Oak pendant lamp. The lamp is handcrafted from solid oak timber. The body of the lamp is accentuated by the intersecting hole, which allows a variety of hanging options. The wooden pendant lamp is available in three finishes.

4. Spotlight Volumes

Canadian designer Lukas Peet has created a new lighting collection called Spotlight Volumes. As the name indicates, the lighting series is inspired by spotlights. The pendant lights have an energy-efficient CFL bulb on both ends; one illuminating the ceiling and the other the floor. The lighting collection is currently on display at the imm cologne 2012 as a part of [D3] Design Talents.

In the designer’s words, “The outer surface is coated in gloss paint, while the inner is hand-painted with a brushed pale matte yellow to contrast the strong overall shape of the lights. The smooth gloss finish of the outside also contrasts with the texture of the visible strokes on the inside.

The Yellow of the inner shade is added to the light through diffusion, adding warmth to the CFL Bulb. The two finishes are divided by the polished steel edge. The lights hang from their braided electrical cord and a 1mm steel cable due to the overall weight.”

5. Tenda Lighting Series

Designer Benjamin Hubert has launched the Tenda lighting series at the London Design Festival 2012. The design of the lighting series combines materials from a diverse mix of industries: Fiberglass rods from the kite manufacturing industry, Lycra from the sports industry, 4-way stretch mesh from the underwear industry, and construction technique from the tent industry.

According to the designer,
“The primary component of the lamp series is a multi-layered construction of textile. The exterior is covered by a quad-directional high stretch micro mesh. This gives the lamp its volume and an ethereal lightness with a sense of varying opacity depending on your viewing position. The internal layers are constructed from Lycra which diffuses the light source. The interplay between external stretched convex curves and internal concave forms creates a dynamic typology of components and progressive design language. These layers of textile are supported by flexible fiberglass rods held in tension by textile and brass connectors.”

6. The AURA Lamp

French designers Oceane Delain and Beatrice Durandard have designed a unique lighting system called AURA Lamp. The hand-made lighting fixture can be suspended from the ceiling or can be hung on the wall. The LED used in the lamp can either be disposed of outwardly of the lamp or inward to create a different lighting effect to suit the mood and environment. The lamp comes in three standard sizes, 50cm, 80cm, and 120cm. Check out the pictures.

7. The Babylon Lamp

Babylon Lamp is a plantable light fixture created by Toronto-based designer Ryan Taylor. It is a hanging LED lamp that also doubles as your very own hanging garden. Babylon is made of aluminum with a powder-coated finish.

8. Trabant, spherical lamp made of concrete and glass

Trabant is a hanging luminous element that resembles the moon. Its remarkable expression results from the amalgamation of the harsh beauty of the rugged gray concrete and the transparent crystal texture of the glass.

The suspended lamp Trabant is created by Joachim Manz, an architect, and sculptor known for his unique sculptures carved from gray concrete. Trabant is an inventive spherical luminous body that perfectly shows the characteristics of concrete and glass.

Trabant is essentially a ball with double character and precise incision, which allows rotation of the lamp in order to obtain the desired atmosphere in the interior. It has an ideal size to hang as a luminous accent piece or in combination with other lamps it will create a lighting system with different lighting.
